Every 3–5 years for most fences in the Charlotte area, depending on sun exposure, the previous stain, and the wood type.

Can you stain a brand-new fence?

Accepted Answer

Yes — but we usually recommend waiting 30–60 days after installation so the wood has time to dry out and weather slightly. Fresh-cut wood doesn't absorb stain evenly.

What if some of my fence boards are rotted?

We replace damaged boards as part of the project. We'll spot what needs replacing during the quote and include it in the estimate.

Question 4

Stain or paint: which is better for a fence?

Accepted Answer

Stain, for most fences. It penetrates the wood instead of sitting on top, doesn't peel, and looks better as it ages. Paint makes sense if the fence has already been painted or if you want a very specific color.

Do you do both sides of the fence?

Accepted Answer

Yes, both sides — assuming both sides are accessible. If a neighbor's fence is on the other side, we'll discuss what's reasonable during the quote.
